About DTA - The Basics

What is Dunedin Taekwondo Academy?

Dunedin Taekwondo Academy is a family-owned martial arts school in Dunedin, Florida, founded in 1982 by Grand Master James Lemminn. Today, the academy is led by Master BJ Lemminn and serves kids, teens, adults, beginners of all ages, returning students, and families through Taekwondo classes, after-school pickup, summer camp, self-defense training, and private lessons at 2194 Main St, Suite C, in Dunedin.

The Dunedin Taekwondo way

We teach more than kicks, forms, and belts.

Taekwondo gives students a place to move, train, focus, and build strength. But the deeper work is helping students develop confidence, discipline, respect, self-control, and the ability to keep going when something is hard.

At Dunedin Taekwondo Academy, students are taught with structure and encouragement. They learn that progress does not happen all at once. It is built through practice, patience, effort, correction, consistency, and pride in earned work.

Teaching Basics

Dunedin Taekwondo Academy combines traditional Taekwondo instruction with character development, helping kids, teens, adults, beginners of all ages, and returning students build confidence, focus, discipline, respect, strength, coordination, and perseverance in a structured local academy environment.

Progress is earned Students learn that real growth comes from showing up, practicing, trying again, and taking pride in the work.
Confidence is built Confidence grows when students see themselves improve through effort, structure, correction, and consistent encouragement.
Respect is practiced Respect is part of the training, from listening and following direction to supporting classmates and honoring the mat.

Every class gives students another chance to practice, improve, and feel proud of what they are earning.

Mindset

Students practice patience, perseverance, focus, and self-control.

Movement

Training supports coordination, balance, strength, flexibility, and body awareness.

Character

Respect, responsibility, discipline, and confidence are built into the way students train.

Belts matter. Character matters more.

The belt is a milestone, not the whole story. The real growth is in the student who listens better, stands taller, tries again, respects others, and learns how to keep going.

Who we train

A place for every starting point.

Some students walk in full of confidence. Some are nervous. Some are brand new. Some are coming back after years away. Dunedin Taekwondo Academy gives kids, teens, adults, beginners of all ages, returning students, and families a place to begin, train, and keep growing.

Kids

Confidence, focus, discipline, respect, coordination, movement, and positive structure.
